As a fearless 19 year old, Gail Kasper moved to California from her native Philadelphia, alone, without a job, or a car but with plenty of ambition and a desire to learn. While her position in a graphics company paid the bills and provided excellent training, California was not in the cards long term. A few years later, Gail moved back to the east coast and landed a position in the Medical field working her way up from Secretary to Project Coordinator, and eventually to management with her own staff to supervise. But this was still not the career she ordered.
Ever ambitious, Gail earned her promotions by taking on new responsibilities and expanding her skill set. She admits that in the beginning, she was not a good Manager, due to inexperience, and started to study leadership on her own so she could apply those techniques at work. Her company encouraged professional development so Gail took advantage of this by taking 365+ credits of course work in a year even though she was only required to take 36 credit hours to fulfill company expectations. This newfound knowledge and skill set empowered Gail to help her staff and change the company for the better, from within.
The Career Light Bulb
The proverbial light bulb went on for Gail when she attended a conference and was inspired by the speaker and thought – “I want to do that!” Gail identified her own strength as a presenter and public speaker and went back to her company and asked if she could develop and teach a customer service seminar for the staff. She spent 3 months, in her free time, writing and preparing a customer service seminar.
She later moved on to a training company to learn the ropes in this new profession. Gail began to take on consulting gigs on the side including a Sunday morning local TV segment to stretch her wings as a presenter and professional life coach. Soon after, her boss called her into the office and asked her why she was freelancing, and it was clear that her potential was greater out on her own than within the confines of the company. And so, cold turkey, Gail left to start her own consulting business with no money coming in but a passion that gave her the courage to forge ahead.
In 1998, she officially started her own business and relied on word-of-mouth to gain new clients. This was before the internet and the social networking boom and Gail even admits that her press kit back then was a 3-ring binder with plastic sleeves. It was very tough going at first financially and as her own boss, she was accountable for everything. Gail remembers having to be willing to do it all and wished that she had the guidance of a mentor during the early stages of her business to show her the way.
A Passion for Helping People
Even in tough times, Gail was committed to helping people and at the end of the day that is what kept her going. Her transferable skills helped her build her business including her computer and technology proficiency, graphic design, marketing and writing. But her strength and passion is clearly presenting and connecting with clients.
They say hindsight is 20/20 and if Gail had to start her business again today she would have hired a coach or sought out the expertise of a business partner to provide support to propel the business forward at a much quicker rate. But even without this support system, Gail has accomplished remarkable successes and wouldn’t trade those life learning hurdles for the world.
“I know the importance of a plan and a support system. As strong as you might be to carry out any plan, you become invincible with help. I know that I was fortunate to have gravitated to my strengths as a guiding light. These gifts helped me achieve the greatness in my life that I would like to help others achieve.”
Stage Presence in the Professional World
Part of Gail’s coaching expertise includes professional image and communication consulting. As a pageant participant, Gail honed these important skills and is currently the reigning Ms. Continental America. She believes that pageants are a great way to focus on your own continuous development – professional image and fitness. For Gail, competition always encourages growth and it afforded her an opportunity to meet new people and promote her two foundations: The Make a Decision to Win Foundation and Pawtographs.
While her business is a great success, Gail has future goals to take it to another level with a Top 1% Club.
“Forty percent of the privately held wealth in America is controlled by an elite top 1% of the population. Now, for the first time, I am helping people enter this 40% of affluent, successful, empowered people through the Top 1% Club. Extraordinary wealth, like that held by those who are in the Top 1%, is measured by achieving a personal “best” in all life areas – relationships, career, health, personal development, finances, and fun. The Club is for all those who believe they are capable of achieving more in life and are seeking the steps to make it happen. Membership in the Top 1% Club will provide people with proven, cutting-edge strategies through on-line tele-classes, teleconferences, articles, tele-meetings with requested experts, e-roundtable discussions with some of the most elite business partners in the nation and the newest edition to the Gail Kasper program, “G” On-line Magazine, filled with the latest information from image development to health to continuing education.”
While her coaching and training programs have been provided to CEOs, professional sports teams, Ivy League universities and some of the world’s leading private organizations, with incredible results, these same strategies, tools and techniques are now available to people around the globe through her books, tele-classes and technology driven presentations.
Giving Back
At the end of the day, Gail is still committed to helping people in her coaching career and with her foundations. The Make a Decision to Win Foundation provides speaking and coaching resources to those less fortunate such as students, women in shelters, the homeless, or those dealing with life’s challenges. It has also been a resource to other non-profit organizations such as the United Way, the American Cancer Society, the Lymphoma and Leukemia Association, and multiple others.
Pawtographs is a foundation which supports animal welfare and animal rescue efforts. It has created initiatives such as Mayday Pets which helps prevent people from leaving their pet when they are moving from their home. The foundation has also been to Capitol Hill and established Bill #749 for a National Animal Rescue Day. Currently, the bill is pending and needs the support of America to reach out to their Congressional representatives for passage.
Humble beginnings grounded Gail with a tremendous work ethic, energy and determination to discover and showcase her strengths. It has paid off for her tenfold with a thriving coaching business and two foundations with admirable causes. She is a lifelong learner and motivates others to take action and achieve excellence in their lives.
